As well as being a keen crafter, I also love to spend time in the garden. When a project brings the two together, I couldn’t be happier! I upcycled an old wellington boots ornament to create a lovely new feature for our garden porch – I’m so pleased with the result!
I began by painting the wellies using Serene Chalky Paint, which is a beautiful pale blue colour. This project took two coats, because there was an intense pattern to cover, however a lot of projects can be covered with just a single coat of the Americana Décor paint. When the paint was dry, I then covered the wellies with a coat of Soft Touch Varnish to give a beautiful soft sheen.
My gardening wellies are always caked in a layer of mud, so my ornament wellies were to be no exception! I painted on some Dark Brown Crème Wax to give a muddy look to the base of the wellies. I also brushed this into the grooves around my painted gems, and then used a cloth to wipe back the excess, leaving the wax to settle in the recesses. When dry, the wax gives a lovely aged effect and highlights the texture.
Finally, I made some heart embellishments, which I die-cut from Chipboard using the Heartfelt Bigz Die. I then covered these in Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel, and heat-set them to give a lovely shabby chic finish. I glued these on using Silicone Glue.
I hope you enjoyed my latest project! Don’t forget to send us photos of your home décor projects and ideas for using the Americana Décor range – we would love to see your creations!
