Ever since I was a small child, our family Christmases have always begun with making handmade decorations for the tree. It is a tradition that we still enjoy, even though we are all grown up – albeit the decorations have gotten a little more complex than the air dry clay stars and roughly sewn decorations that still adorn our Christmas tree!
When I first saw the Sizzix Birdhouse Box Die, I just knew I had to use it to create a gingerbread house decoration for our tree. The die itself is incredibly easy to use, and even includes the scorelines, and a great scallop-edged roof to decorate the house. I think this is an incredibly versatile die as it can be used all-year round, depending on how you decorate it. Whilst my gingerbread house will be hung up to decorate our Christmas tree, you could also use it as a gift box (I think this would be especially lovely for children), or make several as place settings at the Christmas table!
I cut mine out of Kraft cardstock (the perfect colour for gingerbread!), and decorated it using Liquid Pearls, which I think look just like freshly-piped icing! I also used Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel and Stickles to add a festive sparkle to my Christmas decoration.
So there you have it: one handmade gingerbread house Christmas tree decoration! I had so much fun constructing and decorating this gingerbread house, and I have no doubt that it will be on our family tree for many years to come! I would love to see your handmade Christmassy projects, and your ideas for using this incredibly versatile die. Don’t forget to send in your pictures, ideas and comments – we would love to hear from you!
