Mixed Media Shabby Chic Rolling Pin

For this month’s Baking theme, I decided to alter a rolling pin using lots of mixed media products. I love making altered objects, especially things for the kitchen.

So getting started, firstly I took a plain rolling pin and painted it with DecoArt Acrylic paint in Blue Green Light.

1

Once that was dry I then gave the whole thing a coat of Crackle Medium.

2

This crackle medium dries really quickly, so I didn’t have to wait long before I applied a coat of chalky finish paint and watched as it started to crack and distress.

3

I then took some small pieces of scrim and dyed them using Distress Spray in Peacock Feathers.

4

Once they were dry I glued them to the rolling pin and added some Dew Drops and Micro Beads on top.

I also decided to add a bit more interest by embossing a few random places with Stampendous Shabby Blue embossing powder. I then made an embellishment by using the same powder to emboss a piece of cardstock and stamped over the top of it using a café stamp from the Andy Skinner Shabby Chic Stamp Set. I cut around the shape and edged the card with Silver Liquid Pearls.

6

I then glued this to the front of the rolling pin and added some Prima Flowers as a finishing touch.

I hope you enjoyed this step by step, see you next time.
